Thank God the battle for the White House is finally over! One newspaper’s headline read: “Court Votes for Bush,” referring to the U.S. Supreme Court’s5-4 decision that insured George W. Bush’s victory. I also voted for Bush andam excited about the next four years. Is he the savior? No. There is only oneSavior, and we celebrate His birthday on Dec. 25.When President Clinton was elected eight years ago, I was disappointed. Iwrote an article then and stated that maybe the reason for his election was to show us the difference between light and darkness.

The Clinton years will go down in history as one of the darkest periods in American history. He mocked the truth and used God whenever it wasconvenient. His running mate, Vice-President Al Gore, was a party to all hisadministration stood for. Yes, we had great financial prosperity, but as anation, we came closer to being spiritually bankrupt.

The closeness of the election and the way Al Gore lost reminded me that sometimes God will withhold something we want the most if that thing or position comes before honoring Him. Al Gore seemed to want the presidencymore thana nything else in this world.

Wednesday night, I anxiously awaited the speeches by Vice-President Al Gore and president-elect Bush. Many analysts said that Gore’s speech was heart-warming and sincere. I thought it was a typical Al Gore performance; tellthem what they want to hear. I thought he came across as he alwaysappeared to me – phony. He said he did not like the Supreme Court’s decision, but accepted it. The bottom line is that he had no choice. It brought finalityto a bad dream for many Americans.

Vice-President Gore said he had one regret that he didn’t get the chance to stay and fight for the American people over the next four years, especially for those who need burdens lifted and barriers removed, and especially for those who feel their voices have not been heard. (I’m glad he won’t be thereto fight for me.) The one thing I liked about his speech was his parting words:”It’s time for me to go.”Chris Matthews, a noted TV analyst, almost wept after Gore’s speech. Hesaid that Gore had accepted God’s hand in the decision. Again, he had nochoice.

The liberal media is now suggesting that for Bush to be successfuly, he must move from the conservative right to the moderate center. (In other words, closer to the liberal left.) I ask, why?My friend, Keith Gillies, told me it amazes him that whenever the Democrats win, it’s a mandate. When the Republicans win, they must compromise theirprinciples.

In Bush’s speech, he said that he wasn’t elected to serve one party, but all Americans. I pray that Bush will lead with the wisdom from above which willallow him to be strong, to stand firm, and to please God. If he does that,America will be truly blessed.
