DEAR EDITOR: Industry, their contractors, business leaders and citizens were given the opportunity to make a difference in our community, and they all did in a big way, the United Way.

The second annual St. John Parish United Way golf tournament was a hugesuccess. The generosity of Riverlands Country Club and the meticulousorganizational skills of Marathon and Dupont/Dupont-Dow proved to be a solid foundation for success. Further solidifying the tournament were thesponsors, golfers, United Way agencies and the volunteers that made it a championship event.

Financially, the $29,000 placed in the bank is wonderful. But, just as goodwas the positive atmosphere, with ample supplies of food and drink, thus setting a fine example of our theme, “You and United Way Teaming Up for a Stronger St. John Community.”Members of the committees were: Gretchen Plewak – Marathon/Ashland; Whitney Hickerson – Dupont; Poncho Roussel – Marathon/Ashland; Floyd “Monk” Ordeneaux – Dupont; Lenie Laiche – Marathon/Ashland; Jerry Gauthier – Dupont; Steve Lee – Riverlands Country Club; Greg “Za” Maurin – St. JohnSheriff’s Office; Julia Remondet – St. John Economic Development; DeanTorres – St. John United Way; Bubbie Anderson – Marathon/Ashland; MikeFoley – Dupont-Dow; and Susan Cass – Dupont/Dow.
