LaPlace man faces murder charge after shooting

HAHNVILLE – A LaPlace man faces a first-degree murder charge after a drive-by shooting in New Sarpy resulted in the death of a Norco man.
This was St. Charles Parish’s fourth murder of 2000.”You can’t guard against that,” Sheriff Greg C. Champagne commented onthe incident.
Capt. Patrick Yoes of the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office said Corey Reese, 19,of 605 Franklin Court, LaPlace, was immediately recognized by an eyewitness, and the arrest followed shortly after the Nov. 6 shooting.Witnesses told authorities that about 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 6 they spottedReese, a passenger in a white, four-door Ford Tempo, go past the victims who were standing in the 200 block of St. Charles Street.Minutes later, Yoes said the witnesses related, Reese and the still- unidentified driver passed again. This time Reese extended his arm out thewindow, pointed a small-caliber handgun at the victims and fired several times.
Anthony Harmon, 20, of 539 Giacomo St., Norco, and Laqueena Hunter, 27,of 143 J.B. Green Road, Des Allemands, were struck by bullets. Harmonwas hit three times in the chest, with one bullet penetrating his heart. Hedied soon after at St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling.Hunter received a gunshot wound to her leg.
The vehicle was located later at Reese’s residence when Reese was arrested. He was booked with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Yoes said Reese’s vehicle was burglarized several days ago and suggested the shooting might have been in retaliation for the burglary.
The case is still under investigation, and Yoes said detectives have some leads toward the identity of the driver.
