Riverside makes quick work of Eagles

RESERVE – It can be said that Riverside definitely did not overlook Ridgewood Friday night.

With a District 9-2A showdown with Newman looming next week, the Rebels quickly dispatched the Eagles, scoring 41 first-half points on their way to a 41-0 victory at home. Riverside scored on six of its first seven possessionsand held Ridgewood to 20 total yards in the first half, including minus 31 yards rushing.

Riverside improved to 8-0 with the victory, 4-0 in District 9-2A. Ridgewoodfell to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in district.

The Rebels rolled up 534 yards in offense and 16 first downs. Jared St.Amant led a rushing attack that gained 346 yards, carrying four times for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Delaneuville added five carries for 63yards and a score. Britt Waguespack had five attempts for 30 yards. T.J.Cancienne gained 38 yards on eight carries and Damian Melancon 32 yards on three carries.

Melancon completed all five of his passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

Michael Schoen completed his only pass for 43 yards and a touchdown. GusEntremont had four catches for 136 yards and two scores.

Ridgewood finished with 128 yards in offense and seven first downs. TroyLugo was 8-of-16 for 92 yards and an interception. Darrell Howard caughtfour passes for 49 yards and also ran for 27 yards.

Riverside took the opening kickoff and drove 56 yards in seven plays.

Delaneuville capped the drive with a 14-yard run. Blake Torres added theextra point, giving Riverside a 7-0 lead.

The Rebels fumbled on their next possession with Brandon Anderson recovering for Ridgewood but the Eagles failed to move the ball. On the nextdrive, Melancon found Entremont from 68 yards out on the first play for the score. Torres’ extra point made it 14-0. It would be 21-0 by the end of the opening quarter as the Rebels drove 72 yards in five plays. Melancon and Entremont again connected, this time from35 yards out for the score. Torres made it 21-0 at the end of the firstquarter.

Schoen came in for the next drive and directed the Rebels 73 yards in five plays. Schoen passed 43 yards to Waguespack for the touchdown. Torresagain was good on the point after, making it 28-0.

St. Amant capped a six-play, 65-yard drive for the Rebels with a 9-yard run.The point after was blocked, but it was 34-0 Riverside.

Riverside went 62 yards in four plays for its final points. St. Amant got thescore on a 46-yard run. Torres made the extra point for a 41-0 lead.
