St. John Parish Day with the New Orleans Saints will be heldSunday when the Saints host the Carolina Panthers in the Superdome.

Quality Machine Works, Inc., will hosts its third annual Benefit GolfClassic, Monday, Oct. 23, at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzales. Proceedsfrom the classic will be used to help purchase a van for Paulette Trosclair Remondet, a River Parishes resident who has been in a wheelchair since 1972.

The tournament will feature a 4-man scramble with a shotgun tee time beginning at noon. The entrance fee is $100 per player which includesgreen fees, range balls, shirt, two mulligans, unlimited refreshments, lunch and dinner. Awards will be presented to the top three teans as wellas other contests that will be held throughout the day. Hole sponsorshipsare also available for $100.

The St. Charles Humane Society is sponsoring its annual Howl-in-Onegolf tournament Monday, Oct. 30, at Ormond Country Club in Destrehan. Teetime is scheduled for noon.

The cost to enter is $60 per player. The fee will go toward purchasing staband ballistic vests for St. Charles Parish K-9 police dogs and humanecommunity programs. Sponsorships are also available at the followinglevels: Platinum ($1,000), Gold ($500), hole sponsors ($100) and team sponsors ($120). There will also be prizes for the tournament and a silentauction.

The format for the event is a two-person scramble with men and ladies divisions. Prizes will be awarded in each division. A grand prize of$10,000 will be awarded for a hole-in-one.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #15 will host its annual fund raising golf tournament at Fashion Golf and Country Club, Saturday, Nov. 4.The four-man scramble tournament is scheduled for 1 p.m., with a lunchbeing served at noon. Each $50 donation will provide one person withlunch, green fee, cart and two tickets for an annual dance to be held at 9 p.m. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100. All proceeds support the lodge, which benefits such things as Police Memorial Services, DWI Public Awareness programs, Louisiana Eastern Seals, Special Olympics Torch Run and assistance for distressed officers.

The Roberto Clemente All-Stars are now recruiting baseball players to participate in intensive six-day instructional camps to be held Dec. 26-31 in Miami and Phoenix.

The Arizona camp will be at the spring training home of the Chicago Cubs and the Florida camp will be at the former home of the USA National Team.

Both facilities feature several major league fields, batting cages and clubhouses.

The staff will include major league scouts and college coaches from Florida, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Florida International, Alabama-Huntsville, Rutgers and Georgia.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.

The Golf Sampler Card is $39 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 49 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of thegold card will also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golf towel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12 in-school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievementand its 900 volunteers will teach more than 25,000 local students in over 140 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year- round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally- retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
