The St. John Parish Recreation Department is holding adult flagfootball registration through Friday at the Recreation Department. Gameswill be held Wednesday or Saturdays. For more information, contact ErrolManuel at (504) 652-9569.

The St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Department will hostan NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition at Landry Middle School inHahnville, Saturday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon. Girls and boys will be divided into the following age divisions: 8-9-year-olds, 10-11-year-olds, 12-13-year-olds and 14-15-year-olds.

Boys and girls will compete separately in local competitions with the topfinishers in each of the four age groups advancing to a sectionalcompetition.

The St. John Parish Recreation Department is sponsoring anNFL/Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick competition Sunday, Sept. 17, at theGlade School. The competition is free to boys and girls ages 8-15. Registration starts at1 p.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Competition starts at 3 p.m. All participantsmust show birth certificate to verify age.

The Lafreniere Soccer Association in conjunction with the Louisiana Soccer Association will host a Youth Module level coachinglicense course for coaches of U8 to U10 teams tomorrow at the Lionsfields complex in Kenner from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The course is open to all coaches. The cost is $25 for coaches affiliated tothe state association and $40 for those non-affiliated.

The fifth annual Hahnville Dugout Club golf classic will be heldSept. 16 at Willowdale Country Club. All proceeds will be used to financescholarships for members of both the boys’ baseball and girls’ softballteams, jackets for graduating seniors and the annual banquet for thecoaches, players and parents at the end of the season.

The cost to enter is $65 per player and $260 per team. Hole sponsorshipsare also available. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and thirdplace, closest to the hole and longest drive.

Tee time is scheduled for 1 p.m. with a lunch served at 11 a.m.

Racing Unlimited is hosting Du-LaPlace 2000 Sept. 24 at Regala Park inReserve at 8 a.m.

Du-LaPlace is a two-mile run, 10-mile bike, two-mile run event. The entryfee is $20 through Sept. 18, $25 thereafter. All entrants receive a T-shirt.

Entry fees are non-refundable.

Awards will be given in 12 age groups, male and female, Top five male andfemale overall awards and first place master and grandmaster male andfemale.

The race will benefit the St. John Crimefighters, a community servicegroup operated by the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and localvolunteers have scheduled a hunter education course in the area Sept. 16-17.

The course begins at the Gramercy Fire Station. It will be held there from8 a.n. till 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. till 4 p.m. Sunday. Participants thengo to Nick’s Shooting Range from 4 p.m. till the comnpletion of theshooting portion of the program.

The courses are free to the public and anyone 10 years old and older can becertified. The course must be completed for those born on or after Sept. 1,1969 before a hunting license can be purchased at age 16. All classesmust be attended and tardiness is grounds for dismissal.

The United Way of St. Charles will hold its 11th annual golftournament Oct. 6 at Willowdale Country Club in Luling. The format is afour-man scramble (blind draw handicaps) and is open to all for $75 perplayer.

There will be prizes for the first hole-in-one, longest drive and closest tothe hole. The tournament will be split into morning and afternoon rounds.

Included in the price are cart and green fees, lunch, team photograph anddoor prizes. Companies in the community are invited to become Olympicchampions by sponsoring at the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal level.

The St. Charles Humane Society is sponsoring its annual Howl-in-Onegolf tournament Monday, Oct. 30, at Ormond Country Club in Destrehan. Teetime is scheduled for noon.

The cost to enter is $60 per player. The fee will go toward purchasing staband ballistic vests for St. Charles Parish K-9 police dogs and humanecommunity programs. Sponsorships are also available at the followinglevels: Platinum ($1,000), Gold ($500), hole sponsors ($100) and teamsponsors ($120). There will also be prizes for the tournament and a silentauction.

The format for the event is a two-person scramble with men and ladiesdivisions. Prizes will be awarded in each division. A grand prize of$10,000 will be awarded for a hole-in-one.

The New Orleans Regional Chamber of Commerce is holding its “BigSwing” Golf Tournament Tuesday at Lakewood Country Club, 4801 GeneraldeGaulle Drive in New Orleans.

Registration will be held at 11:30 a.m., followed by a players’ lunch atnoon. Tee time is at 1 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m.

Tournament entry fees are $125 per person or $500 per team.

Sponsorships are available at $1,000, $500 and $300 levels.

The FutureStars 2000 Fall Shootout for boys and girls will beheld at the University of Southern Mississippi Sept. 16-17. The event willhave a separate division for boys and girls.

The Fall Shootout gives high school boys and girls basketball players theopportunity to play against compeition from across the country. The clinicprovides a format for the evaluation of an individual’s basketball skillsand provides player exposure on a national and regional level. Van Coleman and the FutureStars staff will evaluate each player forcollege potential. The FutureStars 2000 Fall Shootout Report will bemailed to over 500 colleges and will feature college level players. Collegecoaches will also be invited to attend the shootouts.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers todrive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses. The Golf Sampler Card is $39 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of49 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, BayouBarriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, OakHarbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of thegold card will also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golftowel. The card is valid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.

Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12in-school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievementand its 900 volunteers will teach more than 25,000 local students in over140 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and toprepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motorvehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number andSpecial Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free.

The vehicle will be recycled into the funds needed to support the year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally-retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has thetitle. Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction asthe fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductibledonation to Special Olympics.
