Racing Unlimited is hosting Du-LaPlace 2000 tomorrow at Regala Park in Reserve at 8 a.m.Du-LaPlace is a two-mile run, 10-mile bike, two-mile run event. The entry feeis $20 through Monday, $25 thereafter. All entrants receive a T-shirt. Entryfees are non-refundable.

Awards will be given in 12 age groups, male and female, Top five male and female overall awards and first place master and grandmaster male and female.

The race will benefit the St. John Crimefighters, a community service groupoperated by the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office. The St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation willhost the Special Olympics District Softball Tournament Saturday, Sept. 30.Opening ceremonies will be held at 8:45 a.m. T-ball games begin at 9 a.m. atthe East Bank Bridge Park. Coach pitched games begin at 10 a.m. at theWest Bank Bridge Park on Field Two. Softball games start at 10:15 a.m. atthe West Bank Bridge Park on Field One. Teams arrive an hour before thegames are to begin.

The United Way of St. Charles will hold its 11th annual golf tournamentOct. 6 at Willowdale Country Club in Luling. The format is a four-manscramble (blind draw handicaps) and is open to all for $75 per player.

There will be prizes for the first hole-in-one, longest drive and closest to the hole. The tournament will be split into morning and afternoon rounds. Includedin the price are cart and green fees, lunch, team photograph and door prizes.

Companies in the community are invited to become Olympic champions by sponsoring at the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal level.

The second annual St. John United Way Golf Classic will be heldMonday, Oct. 9, at Riverlands Country Club in LaPlace. The tournament will have morning and afternoon rounds. The 12th annual St. Charles Borromeo School Golf Tournament willbe held Monday, Oct. 9, at Ormond Country Club. The scramble will have ashotgun strat with a morning round at 8 a.m. and an afternoon roundbeginning at 1 p.m.The entry fee is $400 per team or $100 per person which includes mulligans.

Blue and gold sponsorships are available at a cost of $100 for blue or $250 for gold. Corporate sponsorships are also available. Prizes will be given for first through third place finishers, closest to the hole and longest drive in the fairway. Door prizes will also be drawn during awardceremonies.

St. John Parish Day with the New Orleans Saints will be held Sunday,Oct. 15, when the Saints host the Carolina Panthers in the Superdome. Seatsthat are normally $40 can be purchased for $25. Contact Errol Manuel at652-9569 or Jaimee McCullen with the Saints at 731-1853.

Quality Machine Works, Inc., will hosts its third annual Benefit GolfClassic, Monday, Oct. 23, at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzales. Proceedsfrom the classic will be used to help purchase a van for Paulette Trosclair Remondet, a River Parishes resident who has been in a wheelchair since 1972.

The tournament will feature a 4-man scramble with a shotgun tee time beginning at noon. The entrance fee is $100 per player which includes greenfees, range balls, shirt, two mulligans, unlimited refreshments, lunch and dinner. Awards will be presented to the top three teans as well as othercontests that will be held throughout the day. Hole sponsorships are alsoavailable for $100.

The St. Charles Humane Society is sponsoring its annual Howl-in-One golftournament Monday, Oct. 30, at Ormond Country Club in Destrehan. Tee timeis scheduled for noon.

The cost to enter is $60 per player. The fee will go toward purchasing staband ballistic vests for St. Charles Parish K-9 police dogs and humanecommunity programs. Sponsorships are also available at the following levels:Platinum ($1,000), Gold ($500), hole sponsors ($100) and team sponsors ($120). There will also be prizes for the tournament and a silent auction.The format for the event is a two-person scramble with men and ladies divisions. Prizes will be awarded in each division. A grand prize of $10,000 willbe awarded for a hole-in-one.

The Junior Achievement Golf Sampler Card allows area golfers to drive the fairways at 12 of the local golf courses.

The Golf Sampler Card is $39 and entitles the cardholder to play a total of 49 rounds of golf among the participating courses – Audubon, Bayou Barriere, Colonial, Colonial Acres, Eastover, Ellendale, Lakewood, Oak Harbor, Ormond, Pinewood, Stonebridge and Timberlane. Supporters of the gold cardwill also receive a complimentary Junior Achievement golf towel. The card isvalid from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2000.Proceeds from the Golf Sampler Card benefit Junior Achievement’s K-12 in- school free enterprise programs. This year alone, Junior Achievement and its900 volunteers will teach more than 25,000 local students in over 140 schools about the relevance of education to the workplace and to prepare them for lifelong learning.

Special Olympics Louisiana’s new “Share the Victory” motor vehicle recycling program allows anyone in Orleans, Jefferson, St.

Bernard, St. Tammany and St. Charles parishes to turn extra or unwantedvehicles into “something special for Special Olympics.”An individual can call the “Share the Victory” toll-free number and Special Olympics will arrange to tow away their motor vehicle for free. The vehiclewill be recycled into the funds needed to support the year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for mentally-retarded children and adults in Louisiana.

Vehicles can be in any condition to qualify as long as the owner has the title.

Consumers may also be able to take advantage of a tax deduction as the fair market price of the vehicle is considered a tax deductible donation to Special Olympics.
