CCA fishing rodeo beginning May 26

The Coastal Conservation Association and Mercury Outboards have announced that this years S.T.A.R. fishing tournament will feature more than $500,000 dollars in prizes. At the top of the list is a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. Registered competitors need never wet a line to win the Suburban, which will be raffled away on September 27. The seventh annual Statewide Tournament and Anglers’ Rodeo features a drawing of another sort- 50 specially tagged redfish have been released at secret locations along the Louisiana coast line. Registered anglers who hook one will win a Champion 230RV complete with motor and trailer package. Younger competitors have two opportunities to win. Registered anglers 17 and younger can qualify to win by catching a flounder or speckled trout that is a minimum of 14 inches long. Each qualifier will then be entered into a drawing for a 14-foot Weldcraft with motor and trailer package. One winner will be drawn for the flounder and speckled trout divisions. Other prizes will be awarded to the registered anglers who bring in the largest red snapper, cobia, flounder, sheepshead and speckled trout.
