White for the first time in school history. St. James did press the Bulldogs hard, leading the game until Riz St. Germain hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game. Germain’s line drive sent Dustin Deslatte and Keith Hymel racing through the bases for home. The loss was depressing for St. James who was only two outs away from beating Lutcher for the first time. Lutcher Coach Scott Tribble knew that St. James would be coming in strong after defeating E.D. White. Tribble told his players that the key to winning is the confidence of the team. They would have to play well to beat St. James. Confidence or not, St. James played with what it takes to win. Two runs were brought in during the first inning, highlighted by a RBI single by Edmond Morton. Deslatte trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning. St. James scored again in the third and Lutcher replied with a run in the fourth. Lutcher Pitcher Ryan St. Germain held the Wildcats to only two hits in six innings, helping keep the lead close enough to catch. St. James Coach Marty Luquet was pleased with the way his team played and though they did everything it took to win, the Wildcats just couldn’t pull ahead far enough.
