(Staff Photo by Michael Kiral) BOUTTE – Christian Life answered a big inning by Hahnville with one of its own, scoring five runs in the sixth to take a 12-10 victory in the St. Charles Parish Tournament Friday afternoon. Hahnville fell to 3-3 with the loss. Hahnville scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-7 lead. Paul Davis led off the top of the sixth for Christian Life with a double inside the third base line off Hahnville reliever Denis Lanaux. Kit Kiebech followed with a single to right and Jacob Simmons walked to load the bases with none out. Jarrod Farrell came in to pitch for the Tigers and was greeted with a single to right by Stephen Parker, scoring Davis and Kiebech. Hunter Joffrion then hit a chopper in front of the plate. Catcher Jeff Williams fielded the ball and caught Parker going to third for the first out. Joffrion went to second on the play with Simmons staying at third. Simmons came in as Matt Smith reached on an error to tie the game at 10. After Landon Parker walked to reload the bases, Mike Melancon singled to center, scoring courtesy runner Jordan Rentz. Thomas Bourne then laid down a squeeze, scoring Smith for a 12-10 lead. Matt Caire walked with one out in the bottom half of the inning and pinch runner Joey Rome went to second on a wild pitch. But Josh Hatfield got Kyle Mineo to fly out to center and Farrell to line out to first to end the inning. The game was then called due to darkness. Hatfield, who relieved Kiebech with one out in the fifth, got the win. Farrell took the loss. Hahnville trailed 7-3 going into the bottom of the fifth but Tim Sirmon and Williams opened the inning with singles to center and right, respectively. Mike Picard then walked to load the bases. One out later, Mineo lined a single to left to score Sirmon. Farrell followed with a grand slam over the left-center field fence, putting the Tigers ahead, 8-7. Dustin Roussel kept the rally going by beating out a single to short. Kiebech walked Ryan Burke and was replaced by Hatfield. With the runners breaking on a hit-and-run, Breland Brown lined a single to center, scoring Roussel and sending Burke to third. Sirmon then squeezed in Burke, making it 10-7. Melancon led off the game with a single to second against Caire. Bourne then reached on an error and Davis singled to center to load the bases. Kiebech grounded out to third as Melancon scored but Caire got out of further trouble by striking out Simmons and getting Parker to fly out to left. Hahnville came right back in the bottom of the inning. Sirmon led off with a double to left-center field and went to third on a wild pitch. Sirmon then scored as Williams reached on an error. Williams then advanced to second on a single to center by Picard, stole third and scored on an errant pickoff throw to first by Joffrion. Two outs later, Picard scored as Farrell lined a triple to center, giving Hahnville a 3-1 lead. Christian Life regained the lead with four runs in the third. Bourne doubled and Davis singled to center to open the inning. Kiebech and Simmons followed with run-scoring singles. Parker brought in two more with a single to left, making it 5-3. Melancon led off the fourth with a home run to left against reliever Brandon Casanova. Davis and Kiebech walked and Simmons hit into a run-scoring force out to give the Crusaders a 7-3 lead. “We threw too many bad pitches,” Hahnville head coach Mark Sims said. “They are a good team. They swung the bats well and deserved to win.” Hahnville finished with 10 hits, led by Farrell who went 2-for-4 with five runs batted in. Sirmon and Mineo also had two hits. Christian had 15 hits with Melancon getting four of them with two RBIs. Stephen Parker had three hits and Bourne, Davis and Kiebech had two apiece.
