HHS scores 10 in third in victory

(Staff Photo by Michael Kiral) LULING – Hahnville broke through for 10 runs in the third inning to pull away to a 15-1 District 7-5A victory over East St. John Tuesday afternoon at the West Bank Bridge Park. The game was the district opener for both teams. Angela Raziano allowed one hit and two baserunners in four innings to get the win. Ashley Chiasson pitched the final inning, retiring all three batters she faced. Artrena Radcliffe took the loss for the Lady Cats. With the score tied at one heading into the bottom of the third, Raziano led off with a walk. Lacy Boyer then beat out a bunt and Courtney Frickey reached on an error on a fly ball to center to load the bases. Kelly Watson followed with a fly ball to center, scoring courtesy runner Danielle Gourges. Boyer also came in on an errant throw to third, making it 3-1. Frickey scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. Ashley Boudreaux kept the rally going by reaching on an error on a liner to third. Melanie Delaune followed with a single to left. One out later, Ashley Laque and Christy McCully walked to force in Boudreaux. Raziano then lined a single to left, scoring Delaune and Laque and giving the Lady Tigers a 7-1 lead. A walk by Boyer loaded the bases for Frickey who lined a single off third baseman Koi Magee’s glove, scoring McCully and Gourges. Watson walked to again load the bases with Danielle Washington coming in to pitch. Boudreaux walked to drive in Boyer and Delaune followed with another single to left, bringing in Frickey for a 11-1 lead. Hahnville added four more in the bottom of the fourth. Jessica Burke led off with a walk and stole second. McCully followed with another walk and raziano singled off Washington’s glove to score Burke. One out later, Hollin Dufrene reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Lisa Breaux followed with a fly ball to center, scoring McCully. Dixie Dufrene then lined a single down the right field line, bringing in Raziano and Dufrene and giving the Lady Tigers a 15-1 lead. East St. John broke through first in the top of the second. With one out, Qiana Ferdinand lined a single to left, went to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on an errant throw. Raziano went on to retire eight of the final nine batters she faced, allowing only a one-out walk to Darina Ellis in the top of the third. She finished with eight strikeouts. Hahnville tied the game in the bottom of the second. Delaune, who went 4-for-4, led off with a single left. After advancing on an error, Delaune stole third and scored on an errant throw.
