BOURGEOIS GRAMERCY – Marie Poche Bourgeois, 86, a native of Hester and resident of Gramercy, died March 20. She was the wife of the late Gustave Bourgeois Sr. and mother and mother in law of Gustave Jr. Bourgeois, Madeleine Golden and Carol Anne Bourgeois. She was also daughter of the late Lizima Keller and Eugene Jean Poche Sr. and sister of Yolande Lanaux, Leone Claudet, Lorraine Young, Lucie Mae Poche, Eunice Napolitano, Gloria Sealy, Lois Delahoussaye, Guy Poche, Eugene Poche Jr. and the late Joy Ory and James Lynn Poche. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren. Services were Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph Mausoleum.
CARUTHERS Woodville, Miss. – Betty A. Caruthers, 66, a native of New York City and resident of LaPlace, died March 20. She was the wife of the late Thomas L. Caruthers and mother of Theresa Gallant, Jennifer Arcuri and Kim Mathers. She was also the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred Zimansky Kaufmann and sister of Ronald and Henry Kaufmann and Louise Butler. She is also survived by six grandchildren. xervices were March 23 at Millet Guidry Funeral Home in Laplace, with interment at Evergreen Cemetary, Woodville, Miss.CURTIS NEW ORLEANS – Michael Curtis Jr., 19, a native and resident of LaPlace, died March 20. He was the son of Mike and Ginger Curtis and the brother of Kristen and David Curtis. He was also the grandson of Nelson and Gloria Curtis, Connie Gitz and the late David Rudd. Services were March 23 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery, New Orleans.ISOM VACHERIE – Josephine Isom, 63, a native and resident of Vacherie, died March 21. She was the wife of Willie Isom Sr. and mother of Sarah Isom, Zina Simon, Samantha Johnson and Willie Sr., Farrel and Alonzo Isom. She was also the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephia Steib and sister of Olivia Joseph, Leona Dumas, Beatrice Baptiste, Lydia Keller, Elroy Steib and the late Paul Steib. She is also survived by five grandchildren. Services are today at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, in Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetary. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.JUNEAU DESTREHAN – Jonathan Juneau, 18, a native and resident of Destrehan, died March 20. He was the son of Roger, Kim and Grace Juneau and Glenn Wilson and brother of Chris and Patrick Juneau. He was also the grandson of DeAun Walsdorf, Patricia Mills, Stephen and Jeanette Goudreau, Lavonne and Gilbert Crum and the late David Walsdorf Jr. and Ruth and Roy Juneau. He was the great-grandson of Betty Crum. Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, in Destrehan, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery.MITCHELL LAPLACE – Ronnie Mitchell, 54, a native of LaPlace and resident of Reserve, died March 15. He was the son of Gladys Mitchell and brother of Hilton Mitchell Jr., Donald Mitchell; and Glythina “Gayle” Batiste. Services were March 22 at Providence Baptist Church No. 1 in LaPlace, with interment at Providence Cemetary, LaPlace.ROME GOLDEN MEADOW – Earl Martin Rome, 84, a native of St. James, former resident of Donaldsonville and Golden Meadows and resident of Slidell, died March 21. He was the husband of Jeanne Guilbeau Rome and father of Noland Martin Rome, Evelyn Rome Bartels and Jenny Rome Kuehl. He was the son of the late McNeely Sr. and Lucille Delatte Rome and brother of the Joseph McNeely Rome Sr. and late Ervin and Harold Rome and Enola Rome Brossette. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by one grandchild. He was the retired president of Trans-Gulf Shrimp Company and past president of the Louisiana Shrimp Association. Services were March 21 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, Golden Meadow, with interment at the church mausoleum.TAYLOR ST. ROSE – Edward “Fuzzy” Taylor, 57, a native of St. Rose and resident of New Sarpy, died March 15. He was the husband of Ellen Smith Taylor and father of Clyde Taylor, Monica Blue and Edric Taylor. He was also the son of Edward and Doreather Johnson Taylor and brother of Lawrence Taylor, Karl Taylor, Gloria Mae Brown, Jaxquelyn Cherry and Emeria Taylor. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Services are today at 11 a.m. at Fifth African Baptist Church, St. Rose, interment at St. Rose Cemetary, St. Rose. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. ZAFFRAN LAPLACE – Edwin “Zip” Zaffran Sr., 77, a native of New York and resident of LaPlace, died March 22. He was the husband of Margaret Zaffran and father of Gina Millard, Ramona Gonyer, Valerie Byalick, Lisa Lydon and Edwin Zaffran Jr. He is the son of the late Nicholas and Angelina Zaffran and brother of Angie Webster, Jean Bellazza and the late Guido Zaffran. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Services are today at 11 a.m. at Millet Guidry Funeral Home chapel, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
