(Photo by Anna Monica) LUTCHER – A cold and windy Saturday with little or no sun greeted tennis players and die-hard onlookers at Lutcher High School’s Wescovich Tennis Center. It was the annual, though not consecutive, Brett Boudreaux Memorial Tennis Tournament, conducted by Lutcher’s tennis coach and assistant football coach Kyle Cunningham. The tournament honors Boudreaux, a senior Lutcher High tennis player who died in Jan. 1994. He was the grandson of the well-known Riley Boudreaux, former St. James School Board president, also an avid tennis player. In the junior girls’ singles division, Ann Marie Clemente of Gramercy won first place with Hillary Lambert of Lutcher, second, and the junior boys’ singles division winners were Cody Martin of Grand Point first, and Bennett Becnel of Vacherie, second. In the singles competition, Ashley Vicknair and Jennifer Hidalgo of Lutcher won first and second places, respectively. Stephen Roussel was first and Brian Lambert second in the men’s singles division. In improved weather conditions, competition continued on Sunday at the tennis center with Donaldsonville’s Ascension Catholic ladies, Jenna Carter and Lainey LeBoeuf winning first place and Lutcher’s Ashley Vicknair and Jennifer Hidalgo taking second. Stephen Roussel and Brian Lambert teamed up to take first place in the men’s doubles division over second place winners, Dean Mitchell and Matt Clemente. Besides awarding trophies to the winners, all participants in the tournament received commemorative tee shirts in the traditional Lutcher colors.
