Local area groups seek volunteers

The Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross, which serves a 12-parish region including St. John and St. Charles parishes, is seeking volunteers in the areas of health and safety, youth and disaster who are willing to serve throughout the 12-parish region. The chapter headquarters, located at 3224 26th St. in Metairie, is also in need of volunteers for its administrative support capacity in various departments. The St. John Relay for Life annual fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society will be held April 21-22 at the Joe Keller Memorial Stadium from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. An overnight camp will be set up for team members, and games will be featured. The event will celebrate life with cancer survivors in addition to raising funds to help fight cancer. St. John Relay for Life chair Bobbie Zaidain expects over 700 participants and hopes to raise over $60,000 during this year’s fund-raiser. For information call Bobbie Zaidain at 652-5672.

Individual and group volunteer performers are needed for Oak Alley Plantation’s 10th annual arts and crafts festival March 24-25 on the grounds of the plantation. The festival will offer performers a raised stage underneath a tent on the festival site. The sound system will also be provided. Between 10,000 and 12,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which will offer live entertainment, artists, crafters and area chefs. Crafters are needed for the St. Peter Arts and Crafts Easter show on March 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school, located on West Seventh Street in Reserve. In-door booths (10X10) are being offered for $30. Applications for booths are due by March 13, and there will be a $10 additional fee for applications received after this date. Crafters may begin setting up their booths at 7 a.m. on the day of the show. Each participant is asked to donate one item from their booth for a raffle. Proceeds from this fund-raiser, sponsored by Trisha Babin and Alex Vicknair, will benefit St. Peter spring pageantry.
