Low cost spay/neuter of cats and dogs of qualifying St. Charles Parish residents takes place at the St. Charles Animal Shelter (across from Westbank Bridge Park). Qualifying pet owners should arrive by 8 a.m. with pets restrained on a leash or in a carrier. Pets should not have food or water after 10 p.m. the night before surgery. Pets will go home on the same day as surgery. Call the St. Charles Humane Society at 785-9136 for information on qualifications. Free art classes for St. Charles Parish senior citizens, age 60 and up, are from noon to 3 p.m. at the New Sarpy Senior Citizen Center. The class is taught by local artist and member of the Le Petit Art Guild Edie Corso. Supplies are furnished by St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation Department. A cancer support group for patients, friends and family who are dealing with cancer or have lost someone to cancer meets from 6-7 p.m. at River Parishes Hospital. A community meeting about cancer, featuring prominent cancer researcher Dr. Jay Hunt, Ph.D., begins at 6:30 p.m. at Lutcher High School auditorium. Dr. Hunt will explain how every dollar donated to cancer research makes a difference and how his research may improve the quality of life. The St. Charles Historical Foundation general membership meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Friloux-Robinson American Legion Post 509, 10803 River Road in Ama. East St. John High School Sugarettes girls lock in takes place in the schools gym. The lock in, for girls age 6-13, begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday and ends at 7 a.m. Saturday. A workshops on hair styling and makeup will be held and girls can have their nails polished. Entertainment will include dancing, games and movies. Refreshments will be sold – no outside food allowed.
