LAPLACE – Lisa Hoover has been selected as Mrs. LaPlace International 2001 and will represent the LaPlace area at the Mrs. Louisiana International Pageant on May 19 at the Performing Arts Center in Shreveport.
In 1985, the Mrs. International Pageant was founded, with the programs aim to promote married women in a way different from the more usual pageants.
The swimsuit competition has been replaced by aerobic wear. Husbands are included in the program during the evening gown competition, and the new 2001 title-holders husband will be placing the crown on his wifes head at the completion of the show.
The pageant scoring is based upon 50 percent interview, 25 percent aerobic wear and 25 percent evening gown, with an onstage question. Each contestant is required to have a platform. The platform for Mrs. LaPlace will be focused on promoting the issue of “Character Development Education,” which emphasizesd the six pillars of good character: trustworthiness, respect, caring, responsibility, fairness, and citizenship.
Hoover is 36 years old and resides in LaPlace with her husband, Steven Hoover, and their children, Kristen and Matthew. She is employed at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School as a fifth-grade teacher.
Hoovers official banner was presented to her by St. John Parish President Nickie Monica on Wednesday in a brief ceremony at his office.
The Mrs. International Pageant system recognizes women for their commitment to family, profession and community stewardship. Throughout her year, the new Mrs. LaPlace International will not only compete for the state crown, but she will also be available to make appearances, do special presentations and assist with civic and non-profit oriented projects. To schedule an appearance, contact the state office at 972-617-5807.
She is currently seeking sponsorship support as she prepares for the state competition. Those who have already pledged their support include Councilman Steve Lee and LaPlace Ford. Anyone interested in sponsoring Hoover may call the above-provided number.
