Students can enter poetry contest

BATON ROUGE – Students attending public, private and parochial school in Louisiana are invited to participate in the Manningham Trust Student Poetry 2001 contest, sponsored by the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Inc. Ten prizes will be awarded in each division – first place $75, second place $50, third place $40, fourth place $35, fifth place $30 and honorable mentions $10. Contest divisions are junior division (grades six through eight) and senior division (grades nine through 12). Poems may have been printed and have won previous awards. Send two copies of each poem, one copy with students ID, school address and grade. The second copy should have no identification. One poem per student, any subject, any form. Poem should be neatly typed or computer-generated and no more than 50 lines. No illustrations, unusual type fonts, i.e., gothic, script, etc. Entries should be postmarked no later than Feb. 25 – send entries to Genevieve DeWitt, LSPS State Chair, Manningham Trust Student Awards, P.O. Box 77721, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Winning poems of students in the national, including honorable mentions, will be published in booklet form and these students will receive complimentary copies. Students who place in the state will receive certificates. Winners will be announced by May 5 and awards will be mailed to the state chair to distribute to the student’s school.
