LULING – Justin “Pee Wee” Dufrene heads into another weekend, following surgery Thursday to relieve the swelling on his brain, according to a family spokesman. Dufrene, 18, of Luling, has been hospitalized at Ochsner Hospital since events at an Aug. 4 party on Monsanto Avenue resulted in his severe head injuries. His uncle, Grant Dufrene, said the surgery “seemed to help” Justin’s condition. However, he remains in extremely critical condition and has been battling pneumonia for nearly a week. Meanwhile, the Grant Dufrene family has continued their vigil at Ochsner Hospital, where Justin remains in an induced coma. He was diagnosed with a skull fracture, brain trauma and internal brain bleeding. Shawn J. Trehan, 20, of Des Allemands, is charged with attempted homicide and remains in custody on a $400,000 bond was set by 29th Judicial District Judge Robert Chaisson. Trehan’s parents are devastated by the arrest of their son. “He’s not no murderer. He’s not no killer,” his father, Radley Trehan, said. Trehan’s mother, Doris, added, “We’re very, very sorry for this. We are in terrible pain.” Regina Cyrus of 29th Judicial District Attorney Harry Morel’s office, said the office has also stayed in constant contact with the family, in case the charge must be changed. Dufrene, an honor student and 2001 graduate of Hahnville High School, was enrolled at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on a TOPS Scholarship, according to his uncle.
