Burns, 62, 8892 B Sunnyside Drive was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up traveling northbound near North West Fourth Street, when he suddenly crossed Airline Highway into southbound traffic around 3 p.m. His vehicle was struck head-on. Daniel Lee Armstrong, 34, 1713 Frances Ave., Metairie, was traveling southbound in a 1984 GMC Diesel 7000 truck when Burns crossed into his lane. Armstrong suffered serious injuries, including broken bones, and was transported to River Parishes Hospital. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday morning, according to hospital officials. Louisiana State Police Troop B Trooper Michael Wolfe investigated the accident, but was unable to determine why Burns crossed into opposing traffic or from what location he was coming at the time. Neither man is believed to have been wearing a seatbelt, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
