HAHNVILLE – Glenn Robinson of Luling was convicted July 18 of the armed robbery of an elderly neighbor. He faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of 99 years. However, according to prosecutor Kim McElwee, Robinson, 18, could end up with a minimum sentence of 49 1/2 years and a maximum of 198 years because of multiple-billing. Robinson was arrested April 20, 2000 after he broke into the home of a 77-year-old woman on Ristophe Street. The victim had been watching television at 12:48 p.m. when an armed man entered, robbed her at gunpoint of her cash and jewelry and locked her in a closet while making his escape. Robinson was arrested that same day and charged with armed robbery, illegal use of a firearm, false imprisonment and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. McElwee said she intends to multiple-bill Robinson to take advantage of laws allowing harsher sentences for repeat offenders. Harry Morel Jr., 29th Judicial District Attorney, added, “We would like to thank the victim for the swift and brave manner in which she reported the crime. This conviction would not have been possible without her cooperation.”
