The biggest events of the Christmas season in the River Parishes is undoubtedly the Festival of the Bonfires in Lutcher and the Norco Christmas Parade. Both draw thousands of participants and onlookers, and both are positive, uplifting events, fun for all ages.
The largest, of course, is the bonfire festival, Dec. 13-15, which includes everything one can imagine for such an event, from a pageant to Santa Claus, from rides to parades, food and the glorious view of dozens of bonfires lining the levee in the chilly nights.
On Sunday, the Norco Christmas Parade kicks off at 2 p.m., but events get under way with the arrival by helicopter of Santa and Mrs. Claus at 1:30 p.m.
There’s caroling, photos with Santa, marching bands, horse groups, antique cars, food and more fun.
It’s wonderful to see both events, both generated by local residents who want only to convey the happy holiday spirit to their neighbors and friends who drop by. Both events show off the best we offer to the community in the line of good will and family-oriented fun.
So, while you are busy with holiday cooking, shopping, visiting your friends and families, take some time out to enjoy both these events and rediscover the holiday spirit, River Parishes-style.
Both events are child-friendly and welcome visitors from all over. The organizers have poured so much work, talent and energy into making this year’s events better than ever. Let’s all go and enjoy ourselves.
They prove you don’t have to get drunk to have a wonderful time.
