ALBERT

PAULINA – Raymond Albert Sr., 63, a native of Paulina and resident of Lutcher, died Aug. 22. He was the husband of Gertrude Brown Albert and father of Angela Taylor, Daphne Carr, Kendell and Dewayne Winfield and Benita, Raymond Jr. and Donald Albert.

He was the son of the late Ernest Sr. and Velma Buckner Albert and brother of Ethel Jenkins, Annie Mae Davis, Diane Cannon, Elaine Foster and Eldrine Sr., Gary, Bernard, Lionel, the Rev. Nolan Sr. and the late Freddie Sr., Ernest Jr. and Larry Albert Sr.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

He was an operator for IMC Agrico in Convent.

Services were Aug. 26 at Evergreen Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at Antioch Cemetery, Paulina.

BARRAS

GRAMERCY – Kimberly Lynne Barras, 7, a native of Metairie and resident of Gramercy, died Aug. 23. She was the daughter of Lonnie and Melissa Gagliano Barras and sister of Lauren Barras and Jimmy Hickman.

She was the grandchild of Elva Gagliano and the late Marion “Gag” Gagliano and Preston and Evelyn Barras.

She was a student at Gramercy Elementary and former student at Paulina Elementary School.

Services were Aug. 27 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina.

CORTEZ

RESERVE – Wallace “Stump” Cortez, 90, a native of Convent and resident of Reserve for 70 years, died Aug. 23. He was the husband of the late Stella DeMarco Cortez and father of June Pollet, Jeanette “Country” Larousse, Joan “City” Roppolo, Katherine Sapia, Judy St. Pierre, Sandra Boe and Stephanie Bourgeois.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Mury Cortez and brother of Norward and the late Victor, Anna, Emile, Lovinia, Alice, Alicia, Althea, Anastasia and Joseph Cortez.

He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were Aug. 26 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the St. Peter Catholic Church cemetery.

COTAYA

KENNER – Terrence Michael “Terry” “Bubba” Cotaya Jr., 26, a native of Metairie and resident of LaPlace for 21 years, died Aug. 21. He was the husband of Crystal Dione Jackson Cotaya; father of Terrence III and Brianna Cotaya; and stepfather of Queysheina Jackson and Keshawn Garfield.

He was the son of Terrence Sr. and Victoria Genovese Cotaya and brother of Melissa Augustin and Jessica Cotaya. He was the grandchild of Helen Cusumano, Charles Genovese Jr. and Edna and Milton Cotaya Jr. and stepgrandchild of Shirley Genovese and Anthony Cusumano.

Services were Aug. 26 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, Kenner.

GERARD

EDGARD – Joseph Preston Gerard, 90, a native and resident of Edgard, died Aug. 21. He was the father of Sadie Ruffins, Anita Lumar and Preston Gerard.

He was the son of the late Arnold and Polenie L. Gerard and brother of Louise Legaux, Bernice Louper, Annabelle Weber, Myrtle and Gladys Gerard and the late Hilda Julian and Claude and Warren Gerard.

He is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 26 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.

HAYDEL

RESERVE – Norma Desroches Haydel, 93, a native of Lions and resident of LaPlace for 74 years, died Aug. 25. She was the wife of the late Nelson Haydel Sr. and mother of Gay Bergeron, Mary Lynn Prejean and Nelson Haydel Jr.

She was the daughter of the late Eusebe and Colette Audiffred Desroches and sister of the late Eleanor Troxclair and Leon Desroches.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

LEBLANC

PAULINA – Louis J. “Preacher” LeBlanc Jr., 86, a native and resident of Paulina, died Aug. 24.

He was the husband of the late Hazel LeBoeuf LeBlanc and father of Connie Roussel, Joellyn Geiger and the late Ronald LeBlanc.

He was the son of the late Louis Sr. and Ann Rose Poche LeBlanc and brother of Stella Bourgeois, Mabel Anderman, Hazel Keller, Chester LeBlanc and the late Alice Duhe and Dudley Sr., Usley, George, Robert and Johnny LeBlanc.

He is also survived by five grandchildren.

He was a retired tobacco and vegetable farmer and former owner of Paulina Food Center.

Services were Aug. 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum.

ROBERTSON

NEW ORLEANS – Helen Robertson, 89, a native of Lions and resident of New Orleans for many years, died Aug. 22.

She was the mother of Emily Collins.

She was a retired housekeeper for the General Services Administration and worked at the Hale Boggs Federal Building.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, New Orleans, with interment at Providence Memorial Park. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

SCHEIDLER

PAULINA – Lt. Cmdr. Willard Scheidler, 74, a native of Phoenix, Ariz. and resident of Lutcher for 12 years, died Aug. 23. He was the husband of Wilma Cunningham Scheidler; father of Karen and James Scheidler; and stepfather of Karen Miller.

He was the brother of Richard, Stuart and Shirley Scheidler.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

He was a retired electronics engineer and U.S. Navy lieutenant commander.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
