BANE

PARADIS – The Rev. Monsignor T. Raymond Bane, 77, a native of County Cork, Ireland, and resident of Bayou Gauche, died April 15. He retired seven years ago as founding pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Paradis.

He was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Woods Bane and brother of Angela Lonergan and the late Maureen White.

He attended Rockwell College, Ireland (1942-44), Queen of Apostles in Washington D.C. (1945-47) and Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. (1947-51). He was ordained on June 6, 1951 and served at churches in West Africa and Savannah, Ga., before being named administrator at St. John the Baptist Catholic Chapel (1968-71), and pastor of the new church (1971-95).

Services were April 22 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Paradis, with interment at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Taft.

BOURGEOIS

PAULINA – Leonia Louque Bourgeois, 96, a native of Grand Point and resident of Paulina, died April 19. She was the wife of the late Victor Bourgeois and mother of Jeanette King, Geraldine Haar, Mildred Quartararo and Richard and the late Leonard Bourgeois.

She was the daughter of the late Ernest Sr. and Floriska Schexnayder Louque and sister of Anita Matherne and the late Ludvine Poche, Emma Martin, Irma Bourgeois and Michelle, Elodie, Lionel and Ernest Louque Jr.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were April 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum.

COOKS

MT. AIRY – Chiquilla Renee Cooks, 18, a native and resident of Garyville, died April 16. She was the daughter of Donna Watkins and Elton Miles, stepdaughter of the late Gerald Watkins and sister of Tyron Grover Jr. and Taja Cooks.

She was the grandchild of Geraldine Washington and Lillian Jackson.

She was a student at East St. John High School.

Services were April 23 at St. Mark Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.

GAUDET

METAIRIE – Ferdie J. Gaudet, 83, a native of Gramercy and resident of Jefferson, died April 20. He was the father of Jenet Zedda and Bubba Gaudet.

He was the brother of Mercedes Gaudin.

Services were April 23 in the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with private interment.

NELSON

KENNER – Christine Beard Nelson, 61, a native of Tylertown, Miss., and resident of Destrehan for 24 years, died April 18. She was the mother of George “Dale” and Gregory Sharp.

She was the daughter of Gracie Walker Beard and sister of Nell Brown, Mildred Brewer, Geraldine Mizell, Susan Doherty and Jerry, Larry and Mitchell Beard.

She is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services were April 20 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, Kenner, with interment at Beard Family Cemetery, Franklinton.

PALERMO

RESERVE – Carlo Palermo Sr., 77, a native of Garyville and resident of Reserve for 46 years, died April 20. He was the husband by first marriage of the late Connie Palermo and by second marriage of Iris C. Perilloux Palermo, father of Carlo Jr., Vincent, Julien, Cheryl, Gina, Bonnie and the late Johnny, Tony and Benny Palermo and stepfather of Billie Pitre and Terry Perilloux.

He was the brother of Lucy Duhe, Rose Varuso, Salvador Palermo and the late Marie Deslatte and Vincent Palermo.

He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were April 23 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church cemetery.

ROME

DES ALLEMANDS – Lester Paul Rome, 61, a native of Wallace and resident of Des Allemands, died April 19. He was the husband of Claudia Rome and father of Tara Rome.

He was the brother of Bertha Breaux, Diane Bourgeois and Eugene, Joe, Ronald, Donald, Wayne, Gary and Larry Rome.

Services were April 20 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands.

SCHARWATH

GARYVILLE – Herbert Frank Scharwath, 87, a resident of Garyville, died April 20. He was the husband of 66 years of Ethel S. Audiffred Scharwath and father of Faith Coneglio, Ethel Audiffred, Joy Monica, Aleta “Cookie” Johnson and Herbert George, Herbert Frank and the late Frank Herbert and David Scharwath.

He was the son of Frank and Flora Scharwath and brother of the late Charles, Ralph and Edward Scharwath.

He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was a retired supervisor from Godchaux-Henderson Sugar Co. after 35 years, a founding member of the Garyville Volunteer Fire Department, including 17 years as fire chief, and was a Life Member of the department.

Services were April 23 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Garyville, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

TERREBONNE

LAPLACE – Robert L. “T-Bone” Terrebonne, 68, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace for 43 years, died April 21.

He was the husband of Beverly Catoire Terrebonne and father of Debra Brignac, Claire Scioneaux and the late Pamela Madere and Kevin Terrebonne.

He was the son of the late Robert J. and Idele Terrebonne and brother of Richard Terrebonne.

Services are today at noon at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
