CHAS

NEW ORLEANS – Marie Ophelia Bailey Chas, 81, a native of LaPlace and resident of New Orleans for most of her life, died March 2. She was the wife of the late Frank Chas and mother of the late Donna Maglapit.

She was the daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Laura Bailey and sister of Lucille Plaisance, Dolores Wach, Patrick and Louis Bailey and the late Laura Seaton and Melvin, Nicholas, Mary, Charles Jr. and Frederick Bailey.

She is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were March 4 in the chapel of Schoen Funeral Home, New Orleans, with interment at St. Vincent de Paul No. 2 Cemetery, New Orleans.

LaBRANCHE

LAPLACE – Joseph C. LaBranche, 84, a native and resident of LaPlace, died March 1. He was the husband of the late Margaret Champagne LaBranche and father of Carl LaBranche.

He was the son of the late Leopold and Amelie Perilloux LaBranche and brother of Mae Granier, Ella Foret and the late Beline Schexnayder, Pauline Vicknair and Peal, Earl and Henry LaBranche.

He is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services were March 4 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

LeCOMPTE

CHALMETTE – Lucille Rome LeCompte, 80, a native of Paulina and resident of Chalmette for 55 years, died March 1. She was the wife of the late Elden LeCompte and mother of Suzanne Turkington and Wayne and Leonard LeCompte.

She was the daughter of the late George and Odile Waguespack Rome and sister of Raymond and the late George Rome Jr.

She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were March 4 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Chalmette, with interment at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

MARTIN

GRETNA – Willie Martin Sr., 66, a native of St. James and resident of Gretna, died Feb. 25. He was the father of Lisa Flemming and Joseph, Willie Jr. and Trenise Martin.

He was the brother of Alberta Brooks, Dorothy Adams, Moweaner Green, Viola Hensley, Vera Marshall and Joseph Wheeler Jr.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were March 2 in the chapel of Davis Mortuary, Gretna, with interment at Christian Social Cemetery, Gretna.

ORGERON

MARRERO – Miriam Haas Orgeron, 69, a native of Vacherie and resident of Marrero most of her life, died March 2. She was the wife of Earless J. Orgeron Jr. and mother of Vera Dickey and Earless Orgeron Jr.

She is also survived by six grandchildren.

She was a retired assistant vice-president of operations at Gulf South Bank.

Services were March 4 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna.

RUIZ

DES ALLEMANDS – Tura Dufrene Ruiz, 48, a resident of Des Allemands, died March 1. She was the wife of Michael Ruiz and mother of Daniel Ruiz.

She was the daughter of Roosevelt “Rooster” Dufrene and the late Dora Adams and sister of Leon Barnum, Kathleen Horn and Brian and Philip Dufrene.

Services were March 4 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, with interment at the church mausoleum.

WILLIAMS

JEFFERSON – Allen J. Williams Sr., 80, a native of Reserve and resident of Jefferson, died March 2. He was the husband of Hilda F. Williams and mother of Gwendolyn Hirsius, Tammy McCollum and Wendy and Allen Williams Jr.

He was the son of the late Octave and Mercee Duhe Williams and brother of Marguerite Talley, Audrey Bienvenu and the late June Daigle, Marie Benoit and A.O., Lloyd, Sidney and Roy Williams.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

He was a retired president of D&S Sheet Metal Works Inc.

Services were March 5 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Jefferson, with interment at Garden of Memories.
