Scholarship offered by business group

LAPLACE – A $2,000 scholarship for women is available from the LaFlambeau Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund. SBMEF is a charitable trust and public foundation.
Candidate Eligibility Requirements:
Women who are citizens of the United States of America and residents of St. John the Baptist or St. Charles parishes and who will be a college freshman in August.
Also, women who are attending or have been accepted at a Louisiana university and who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
Trustees of the fund serve as the selection board. Applications are due at ABWA National Headquarters by March 31. Only the first 20 recieved will be considered so applications should be submitted as soon as possible. The winner will be notified in May, and the scholarship will be awarded in August.
Applications are available in the guidance council offices of local high schools and may be sent to: LaFlambeau Charter Chapter Education Chair, Diane A. Broussard, 1712 Carrollwood Drive, LaPlace, LA 70065-2516.
The LaFlambeau Charter Chapter of ABWA is part of a national network of working women. The association provides business-skills training and education for women of diverse occupations to help them gain career advancement and personal development. LaFlambeau Charter Chapter meets every month on the third Tuesday evening at various restaurants in the River Parishes.
