Coaches choose MVPs

RESERVE CHRISTIAN

Amber Schlesinger, a senior middle attacker, was chosen as the Eagles’ offensive MVP.

Schlesinger grossed 96 kills, 23 blocks, 16 aces, eight digs for 67 points and was selected for the first team all-District.

Mary Venus, a senior, took the honors as the Eagles’ defensive MVP and was also selected for the first team all-District.

For Reserve Christian, Venus made 26 kills, 16 aces, 16 digs and 40 points as an outside hitter.

RIVERSIDE ACADEMY

Coach Toni Miano said the Lady Rebels will not officially chose their team’s MVPs until their sports banquet held in May.

ST. CHARLES CATHOLIC

The Lady Comets’ coach Michelle Dearmitt said she was proud of her entire team and added they are all MVPs for accomplishing their goals.

ST. JAMES

Lanaire Borne, a second season sophomore, was chosen as the Lady Wildcats’ best player throughout the season. Coach Kermit Gauthreaux said Borne had the most kills, was the team’s second best server and was beneficial with good blocks and play on the back row.

Antoinette Costley, a second season junior, was chosen as one of the best on her team for her steady play and talent across the court.

Mallory Cortez, the Lady Wildcats’ only four-year starter, was one of the team’s top setters and back row players. Cortez, also a 4.0 student, holds honorable mention for all-District and missed being on the second team by only one point.

WEST ST. JOHN

Ciarra Borne, a junior, was the overall MVP for the Lady Rams, leading the team with kills, blocks and digs. Coach Germaine Roussel said she is very competitive and one of West St. John’s floor leaders. Borne was also consistent on offense with her serving, passing and assists and was named an all-District player.

DESTREHAN

Atina Porter was chosen as the LadyCats’ overall MVP. Porter accumulated 186 kills during district play and 388 for the season, as well as a total 91 blocks, 21 digs and 25 aces.

Coaches from East St. John, Lutcher and Hahnville were unavailable for comment.
