Lady Rebels can’t figure out Vidalia’s pitching

SULPHUR – Riverside Academy starting pitcher Megan Warner had pitched very well all season long. On Friday, she pitched well all game long. However, Vidalia High School starting pitcher Miranda Doughty pitched a little better. Her 14 strikeout effort lifted Vidalia to a 1-0 victory over the Lady Rebels. The loss eliminated the Lady Rebels from the playoffs. Doughty’s masterful performance left the Riverside fans speechless and silent throughout the game.
Through the first three innings, Warner did not allow a hit. Also, in the bottom of the second she pitched to four batters, while striking out three of them.
After Doughty struck out the side in the top of the fourth, the Lady Vikings got their only run on the board in the bottom of the inning. Third baseman Jenny Watson started off the inning with a single and advanced to third on an RA throwing error. Watson then scored on a base hit off the bat of Jaci Deweese. However, Warner would not give up as she got the next three Vidalia hitters out.
In the top of the fifth, Riverside tried to tie the game with two outs. After Warner and Lisa Lambert flied out, shortstop Toni Abadie walked and stole second. However, Bridget Delauneville ended the inning by being the 12th strikeout victim of the game.
The lone hit the Lady Rebels managed occurred in the top of the first.
After Abadie walked, Holly Ocmand singled to put runners on first and third with two outs. However, the inning ended with Doughty’s third strikeout of the game.
The Lady Rebels left six batters on base throughout the game.
Warner pitched to 24 batters in the game, while Doughty through to 27 Lady Rebels hitters. In addition, Warner struck out four batters. She gave up one run on three hits.
Riverside ended its season 23-12
