Several River Parish schools participate in Sugar Cane Relays last Friday night

EDGARD – Both West St. John and Riverside Academy participated in the Sugar Cane Relays, held last Friday night at Dinvault Field.
In the boys division, Destrehan won the overall event with a total of 126 points. St. James finished second with 92 points, while Riverside finished in third with 86 points and West St. John claimed fourth place with 74 points.
Individually, Darrell Morris and Thomas Augusta of West St. John took home first place in the discuss and triple jump respectively. Morris took home first place in the discuss with a throw of 142-7 1/2, while Augusta jumped 43-5.
Other West St. John boys athletes that did well were Tyson Jackson, Ray Bartholomew and Bobby Raymond. Jackson finished in second place in the shotput behind Destrehan’s Darryl Richard. Jackson had a distance of 44-1 1/2. Richard claimed first place with 44-8.
In addition, Richard also got third place in the javelin competition.
Bartholomew finished in second place in the 200 with a time of 22.40. He finished behind Jai Eugene of Destrehan, who ran the 200 in 22.23.
Raymond got third place in the 400 with a time of 55.23.
In the boys division for Riverside, Chris Reeves placed third in the javelin with a distance of 159-9. Lee Haydel finished in second place in the triple jump with 43-2.
Evan Canozeri got first in the pole vault with a vault of 9-6. Jesse LeBlanc of Riverside got first place in both the 1600 and 3200. His time in the 1600 was 4:51, while in the 3200 he was clocked at 10:50:22.
West St. John placed second in the 400-meter relay with a time of 43.61. Destrehan took home first with a time of 43.33. The Rams got third place in the 800-meter relay with 1:35.05, while Riverside got third in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:51.05
Destrehan got first in both the 400-meter relay and the 1600-meter relay.
In the girls division, the lone West St. John girl to win first place was Ireyonna Lewis, who got first place in the discuss with a throw of 99-1/2.
Riverside’s Allison Zeringue got 5-0 in the high jump, which was good enough for first place. She was also second in the triple jump (30-9).
Erica Englade of RA got first place in the 1600 with a time of 6:16.79.
