LUTCHER – Riverside Academy Lady Rebels pitcher Megan Warner proved Sunday she can swing the bat as well as pitch. She fired a two hit shoutout as the Lady Rebels knocked off Cabrini 3-0 on the final day of the Toot Ganier Memorial Tournament, held at Bulldog Park.

“We did really well as a team out there today,” Warner said. “I feel like the more we play the stronger I will be,” she said.

The first inning had all of the offense the Lady Rebels needed. After Lauren Lambert and Meggie Martin got out to start the game, the next four Riverside hitters reached base safely. Daphney Zimmer singled and went to second base on Holly Ocmand’s single. Following a Kayla Poirrier single, Warner stepped up and delivered home three runs by smacking a double that cleared the bases.

Warner was perfect through three innings. After getting the first three batters out she faced, Warner appeared to have little difficulty.

In the bottom of the second, she struck the side. Kelsie LeBauve, Mallory Matute and Chelsey Landreaux all went down on strikes in the second inning.

In the top of the second, Riverside threatened but could not produce any runs. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ocmand flied out to center ending the inning and the threat.

In the third inning, Warner retired her ninth consecutive hitter by getting Erica Banks to ground out, which ended the inning.

The fourth inning saw the Crescents got its first base runner. After Lindley Bodenheimer grounded out to start the inning, Randi Mura doubled and advanced to third on a hit by LeBauve. However, with two out the Lady Rebels managed to get out of the jam. LeBauve was caught stealing to end the inning.

A lead-off single in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of Jessica Brack was all the Lady Rebels managed to get.

Taking the loss for Cabrini was LeBauve.

Even though the Lady Rebels record is around .500, Warner thinks her team has what it takes to go all the way.

“I know out record does not show it, but we have been playing pretty well and hanging in their with some good teams,” she said.
