Things are quickly coming to an end for the girls basketball season. By far and away, the East St. John Lady Cats are without a doubt the best team not only in the River Parishes, but also the best team in the state. Here is what some of the teams are facing heading into the final game of the season.
St. Charles Catholic
The Lady Comets have played hard, but currently sport a below .500 record in 10-3A. Both of their victories in the district have come against Lutcher.
They did play competetive games against St. James and Donaldsonville, two teams that will see post season action.
Currently in fourth place, SCC will close out the season Friday night against Donaldsonville on the road. Back on January 27, the Lady Comets fell to the Lady Tigers, 56-39.
East St. John
The East St. John Lady Cats have ran past the competition all year long. Their strong point during the season has been their defense, giving up an average of around 35 points per game.
The closest they have come to getting beat was a 62-52 victory over Hahnville on February 3.
Other than the 10-point win over HHS, the other teams in 6-5A have provided little challenge for the Lady Cats. Led by seniors Kojo Hamilton and Erin Keller, the Lady Cats will close out the regular season Friday night against HL Bourgeois at home.
As of press time, they have a one game lead over Bourgeois.
Riverside Academy
It has been an extremely difficult season for the Lady Rebels during the 2003-2004 season.
With no home court advantage to speak of, Riverside is currently in fourth place in the district with a 3-7 district record (5-21 overall).
The Lady Rebels had a bye last Friday night, but will play their final regular season game of the year this Friday night against St. Martin’s, the team that is currently in first place in 10-2A.
The Lady Rebels lost to St. Martin’s back on January 20.
West St. John
The West St. John Lady Rams are in good position to see post season action this year.
They are currently in third place in 10-2A with a district record of 7-3.
Jada Fiffie and Terri Pierce have been doing most of the scoring for the Lady Rams throughout the season.
West St. John will close out the regular season Friday night at home against Fisher.
