RESERVE – The streaking Reserve Christian Lady Eagles ran past two more opponents in the past week as they beat Doyle, 67-40, and then Landry, 55-44, to move their season record out to 12-3.
The Lady Eagles are also 2-0 in district, and head coach Kevin Branch isn’t shy about admitting that he is already looking ahead to a playoff run for the Eagles this season.
“We made the Sweet Sixteen tournament last year and really think we can get back there this year, hopefully making a run at the state title,” he said. “Right now we are working on improving our inside game and playing tougher defense, but I can see the girls getting better all the time.”
In the game against Doyle, Reserve Christian exploded out of the gates for a 28-8 first quarter lead and never was threatened.
Trenell Smith scored 31 and Trenese Smith scored 24, while Jayna Morris added 11 points.
Against Landry, the team had a tougher fight on their hands, but slowly built a lead and held off a Buc challenge down the stretch.
The same trio led the way in scoring as Trenell scored 23, Morris scored 16 and Trenese added 11.
“We really expect to be in the plaoffs again,” Branch added. “But we want to go further than the semi-finals this year, and I think we have a real chance to do that with this team.”
Angle Arnold and Jessica Porter were also cited for strong play inside for the lady Eagles.
