LAPLACE — “Ninety percent.”
That is how East St. John All-American quarterback Ryan Perrilloux sums up his status as the top rated prep QB in the nation.
“I would say it is 90 percent sure I’m going to Texas,” he said this past week on the school campus. “I really am pretty solid with Texas. But I still want to take a couple of other trips. I’m not saying it is 100 percent yet.”
Perrilloux has buzzed through this season garnering attention from all over the nation for his school.
Ending his senior season for the Wildcats setting the Louisiana high school single season record for total offense with 5,050 yards running and passing the ball, Perrilloux has lived up to his billing as the number one high school quarterback in the country.
The recruitment from national Division I schools has certainly backed that up.
He has endured the constant pressure to make a decision, with it all starting over a year ago. And the most amazing thing about how he has handled it?
“I don’t have a cell phone,” he said.
Probably a good idea for the Wildcat senior.
But as for his all-important decision about where he will take his football talents, it was months ago that reports began surfacing that Perrilloux had definitely committed to the University of Texas.
And this past week, after his final high school season ended with a run to the state quarter-finals in the 5A playoffs, Perrilloux was again ready to focus on settling that decision with the official signing day not until February 2.
He was heading to LSU this weekend for his first official visit, and has yet to take an official visit to Texas although he said he has committed to sign with the Longhorns.
“I am going to LSU this weekend, Texas next weekend and then Florida State in January,” he said. “But I really think it is between Texas and LSU.”
Perrilloux said that the other colleges know he has all but settled on Texas, but apparently still want him to visit, with the hopes of changing things.
“I don’t think I’m deceiving anyone by taking the trips,” he said. “They know what I am thinking, but they still want a chance to change my mind.”
So for now, he said he has picked Texas since he likes the quarterback situation, where Vincent Young has been a two-year starter, but may switch to another position next year and open the door for the talented ESJ signal caller to step in.
“I really think I have a chance to play quickly at Texas,” he said. “And that is a big factor on why I am 90 percent sure about going there. Plus I like the campus, the academics, and the coaching staff. Coach (Mack) Brown calls me almost every week.”
Perrilloux finished his prep career with mind boggling numbers. He passed forf 12,967 yards and 159 TD’s, besides the over 5,000 yards this year that included 67 touchdowns.
