Rams claim 40-8 triumph over Eagles

CLINTON — West St. John rushed for 366 yards last night and breezed to a 40-8 victory over Clinton in second-round playoff action at the Eagles field.

West St. John took control of the game from the outset as it scored two touchdowns in the first quarter alone.

The Rams built their advantage to 20-0 by halftime, and erupted for 20 points in the third quarter to put the game entirely out of reach.

Juan Joseph got things rolling early for the Rams as he connected with John’s Johnson for a six-yard touchdown pass for the first score of the night.

Later in the opening quarter, Patrick Jackson pounded the ball in from one yard away to make it a 12-0 contest. Joseph then hit Johnson for the two-point conversion to give West St. John a 14-0 advantage.

In the second quarter, Jackson found the endzone once again, this time on a 21-yard touchdown run, and by the end of the first half, the Rams found themselves with a 20-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Jackson picked up where he left off. This time, the West St. John running back exploded for a 35-yard touchdown run to make it a 26-point Rams lead.

The West St. John standout wasn’t through there, as he scored two more touchdowns before the quarter came to a close.

Jackson took a handoff and went in for another one-yard run and, after Ray Bartholomew ran in the two-point conversion, it was a 34-0 contest.

Finally, Jackson rounded out his team’s scoring late in the third quarter when he erupted for an 82-yard score.

Clinton’s lone touchdown of the night came when Robert Signatnar took a pass from Markus Cannon for a 17-yard scoring strike. Cannon ran in the two-point conversion for the Eagles.
