HAHNVILLE- The Hahnville Fighting Tigers took their first step deeper into the playoffs last night with a 48-6 bi-district win over the Terrebonne Tigers at Hahnville High.
The Fighting Tigers used a persistent ground attack to take an early lead, handing the ball off to junior running back Terrance Isaac 24 times in the first half.
After establishing a 21-6 lead at halftime, Hahnville dominated the second half, holding Terrebone scoreless while running up another 27 points of their own.
Taking the opening kickoff at their own 20-yard line, Hahnville set off on an 80-yard 16 play drive that took over six minutes off the clock and was capped off with a 6-yard Isaac scoring run. Drew LeBlanc’s PAT gave the Fighting Tigers a 7-0 lead.
After missing a 47 yard field goal attempt, Terrebone took advantage of a fumbled snap on fourth down to gain possession of the ball at the Hahnville six-yard line. Two plays later Terrebone’s Russell Todd swept around the left end from two yards out for the score. Hahnville managed to get a piece of the ball on the extra point though, and managed to hang on to a 1-point lead.
The visitors from Terrebonne got another break on the next play though, when Hahnville’s Kemon Jacobs lost the handle on the ball and Terrebone took possession on the Tiger’s 23-yard line. Fortunately for Hahnville, Terrebone missed their second field goal of the night, this one from 22 yards out.
That was as close as Terrebonne would get.
After taking control on their own twenty, Hahnville QB Bryant Lee connected on a 51-yard pass to Brian Singleton that put the ball on the Terrebone 29. Isaac would carry the ball six of the next eight plays, finally taking it onto the end from two yards out with 5:22 remaining in the second quarter.
Hahnville’s defense stepped up on the next possession, holding the visiting Tigers to a three and out
Lee and Singleton would connect again right before the half ended on a five-yard touchdown pass with :15 seconds on the clock.
Despite two more turnovers, the Fighting Tigers never lost control in the second half. Isaac would score twice more, once on a two yard counter play up the middle, and the second time on a 45-yard jaunt that he broke to the left and took up the sideline for the score.
Lee added a 38-yard TD pass to Darwin Washington with a little over three minutes to play, and Jeremy Barnes broke a 26-yard run around the left end to finish the scoring.
Isaac was leading rusher for Hahnville, carrying the ball 35 times for 164 yards and four touchdowns. Lee was 8 for 9 passing, with 186 yards.
Quarterback Joseph Perio led Terrebone in rushing with 32 yard on nine carries. Perio was three for nine passing for 26 yards.
