ST. AMANT — East St. John will try to get back on the right track when it opens its Class 5A postseason on the road against the St. Amant Gators Friday night.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the St. Amant field.
The Wildcats of East St. John, who earned the No. 19 ranking in the state, dropped a 39-36 shootout to South Lafourche in their regular season finale that knocked them to 7-3 on the season.
St. Amant, meanwhile, finished with an identical 7-3 record and claimed third place in District 4-5A.
Gators head coach David Swacker said the two teams have some definite similarities.
“We’re both explosive on offense and we tend to give up a number of points on defense,” he said. “We spread things out on offense a little more on than they do, but we’re going to have to slow down (ESJ quarterback) Ryan Perrilloux if we’re going to be successful.”
Perrilloux ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more in the Wildcats’ loss to South Lafourche last week.
