HAHNVILLE – A 39-year-old Luling woman was recently arrested by authorities with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office for neglecting an 85-year-old Luling man she was employed to care for.

Medgra Bailey of 18 Legarde Street, Luling was arrested Nov. 10 at 9:20 a.m. for allegedly leaving a bedridden man alone in his residence on Sept. 20.

Bailey had been employed as the caregiver of the ailing man for about two years and allegedly knew the elderly victim was in constant need of health care.

When the Luling man was discovered unattended, his home was allegedly found in a deplorable state of disarray.

An arrest warrant was issued for Bailey on Sept. 22. However, the woman could not be located until the day of her arrest, when she was found in Kenner.

Bailey allegedly wrote three checks, totaling $1,587.33, which were all returned “account closed.”

Theft warrants were issued by the District Attorney’s Office in January and April of 2002.

The caregiver was charged with cruelty to the infirm, three counts of theft and issuing worthless checks.

On Nov. 13, Bailey was released after posting a $2,030 cash bond and a personal surety, which were set by Judge Robert Chaisson.

In a separate incident, a 37-year-old Luling man was arrested for molesting his 3-year-old daughter.

The unidentified father was arrested Wednesday at 11:42 a.m. by the Sheriff’s Office and charged with the molestation of a juvenile.

According Major Sam Zinna, the adolescent told her mother she was assaulted. The child’s mother then reported the incident to law enforcement.

“Based on the information we have, we do not think the child was molested for a long period of time.

A $200,000 bond was set on the father of the victim.
