RESERVE-When you finish a season 2-11 overall and only 1-5 in your district, your not totally disappointed that the season has come to an end.

But on the bright side, with a pair of eighth graders as your best pitcher and hitter, things can only improve for the Reserve Christian baseball program.

Concluding a disappointing 2-11 season with a 20-1 loss at the hands of Northlake Christian on Thursday afternoon, the Reserve Christian baseball team can only now look forward to 2006.

However, with the return of eighth-grader Cane Keller who hit .333 at shortstop and Corey Dugrey who hit .275 and was also one of your best pitchers, things will be brighter next season for Eagles fans.

At the helm of a very young squad, Eagles Head Coach Matt Keller hopes things continue to improve with each season.

“Absolutely,” Keller said. “We came out tied for third in our district with Mount Hermon and won our first district game in two seasons. I am just definitely looking forward to next season.”

Although he had a young squad, Keller said there were problems throughout the 2005 season.

“The biggest problem was our player’s commitment,” Keller said. “The kids had a good time, but they were not fully committed towards baseball.”

Despite the misgivings of his present team, he is excited about the future of Reserve Christian baseball.

“We really only lose four seniors, three of which who were starters,” Keller said. “I had three eighth graders that started and the rest will be back as well.

“If I can get some of the older basketball players, it could really make a difference in Class C which we are heading into next season. We could really make a splash and possibly win some games.”
