RESERVE – Kindergartners at Fifth Ward Elementary School received a special treat on Thursday.
Staff Sergeant Todd Stremlau stopped in to read a book and talk with the children in classes taught by Kendra Spears and Bonnie Dinvaut.
As a representative from the 204th ATSG Louisiana National Guard, Stremlau works with the Sunshine Foundation, which is a state-based initiative to foster reading.
He returned some months ago from serving a seven-month stint in Iraq.
The book, “You are the Sunshine” narrates to the children the importance of seeing the ‘sunshine’ inside themselves. And also to focus on this, no matter what situations are going on around them.
