Fresh off of a tournament championship in Dayton, OH, the Reserve Christian boys basketball resumed district play this past week with a 76-53 defeat of Northlake Christian and a 119-65 thrashing of Varnado in non-district.
Tim Byrd’s Eagles are now 24-13 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in district play.
Demond “Tweedy” Carter continues to show why he is considered one of the best players in America with a pair of outstanding performances this past week. Carter notched a triple-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Northlake Christian and exploded for 40 points in the blowout victory over Varnado.
Kevin Branch also had an outstanding week as he scored 19 points against Northlake Christian and had 15 points in the win over Varnado.
“We are really starting to play well as a team,” Byrd said. “I think a big reason for it is that our legs are starting to come back for the first time in about a month and a half. This past week we were really just firing on all cylinders.
“We took our starters out of the game at the end of the third quarter against Varnado because we already had put 100 points on the board. We really shot the ball well against those guys. We made 20 3-pointers. We really played good defense against a solid team. We played with a lot of injury. Having Demond going 9-of-13 from beyond the 3-point line didn’t hurt that much either.”
