LAPLACE – The New Life Women’s Center (NLWC) ministry turns 15-years-old on February 1. Their services are primiarily provided for domestic violence victims.
On January 1, 1991, the organization began its service to the community. It started with assistance to the homeless, senior citizens, female inmates and the physically/mentally challenged.
Today, NLWC provides direct housing for 29 adult females and 54 children. These Safe Houses, located both in and out of Louisiana, are funded solely from the NLWC Thrift Store (located at 542 East Airline Highway, Laplace); public and private donations; and program fundraisers (candy sales, suppers, etc.)
Since its inception, the NLWC has received only one federal grant, from Jefferson Parish Community Development.
The Thrift Store is open from 8 a.m. To 4 p.m., Monday-Saturday; and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday.
