NEW SARPY — A St. Charles man was arrested on charges of animal cruelty recently, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Carl Lewis, 25, was booked with two counts of animal cruelty Dec. 14 after police seized two pit bulls from a residence at 201 Park Ave.
A St. Charles deputy noticed the two dogs in the back yard with apparent injuries and informed a detective who investigated the scene and also witnessed injuries on the dogs.
Detectives were able to track down Lewis who was not the owner of the residence at Park Avenue, through a computer chip Lewis had placed in the dogs.
An examination of the dogs showed both to be underweight and both showed signs of excessive breeding. One of the dogs had fecal worms and the other had skin and ear infections as well as open wounds that had not been treated.
Judge Kirk Granier of the 29th Judicial District set Lewis’ bond at $3,530, which was posted on Dec. 15.
