Jenay Morris scores game high 23 points in first home game

RESERVE–Prior to the varsity Eagles game on Tuesday, the Lady Eagles JV put in some hometown action by taking on Riverside’s squad in a close match-up. Despite falling behind early in the first half, Reserve Christian settled in behind Jenay Morris to pull ahead and record a 41-36 victory.

The game began evenly matched as the teams traded scores early to make a tie at 15 points apiece. Morris would keep the Eagles one step ahead while the Lady Rebels played catch-up, but the teams exchanged blows all the way through the first half to go into halftime with a 26-21 score in a Reserve Christian advantage.

Riverside came out shooting in the second half, tying the score at 26 again, but Morris again pulled away with a three pointer to put the Eagles back on top mid-way through the third period. Not to be outdone, Jena Elfer sank a pair from the line after a foul to bring it back to a one-point game. But a quick three points by Reserve Christian put them ahead 34-30 to start the final quarter.

The Lady Rebels again came out firing, but found some stiff defense from the Lady Eagles, and couldn’t sink a basket until mid-way through the quarter. During this same stretch, Morris again kept her team one step ahead, but also found offense hard to come by.

With just over two minutes remaining it seemed that Riverside’s squad had a shot when the Eagles committed their sixth team foul, but the Lady Rebs couldn’t make it all back up at the line. Reserve Christian regained possession with about :45 left in the game and killed the clock for a win by a score of 41-36.

Morris led the charge for the Lady Eagles, posting 23 points. Marci Millet was the high scorer for Riverside, with nine points, while Elfer chipped in eight.
