Volleyball opens the post-season today with the bi-district round where Riverside, St. Charles and West St. John join East St. John in the hunt for the state championship.
Riverside, which posted an even 11-11 season record, has captured the seventh seed in Division IV. They host tenth ranked North Iberville for the first round, with the winner set to take on the victor of the match-up of Episcopal, number two, and St. James, number 15. That match is scheduled for Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Joining Riverside in Division IV, St. Charles found their way to the ninth seed which will pit them against St. Thomas Aquanis in Hammond Monday. The winner here will advance to take on either first ranked St. Martin’s, or number 15 Fisher.
West St. John also backed in to the playoffs, nabbing a 15th seed which puts them up against a tough opponent in second ranked Bethany. The Rams will travel to East Baton Rouge for the game, to be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. Should they advance, the Rams will see the winner of the Dunham and Episcopal Acadiana match.
East St. John is the highest seeded of the River Parishes qualifying teams, as they captured their district with an undefeated 8-0 record which is good for a number 11 rank in the Division I. They will play today in the Wildcat Gym in Reserve against number 22 Ponchatoula at 10:30 p.m. The team that advances into the regional round will take on either sixth ranked Archbishop Chapelle, or number 28 Ellender.
Also making their way into the post-season, Destrehan will be up against Assumption and Hahnville will be taking on Walker. Destrehan, who is seeded 25, will travel to Napoleonville for their game against the number five seed, while Hahnville, at number 16, will host the number 17 Chargers.
The regional division match-ups are scheduled for Wednesday this week, followed by quarterfinals and semi-finals on Friday in Lafayette before the state championships next Saturday.
