RESERVE – A Reserve woman died in a two-car accident Thursday night on River Road in Garyville.
Trooper First Class Omar Landrum of Louisiana State Police Troop B reported that at 11:57 p.m., Richard Gray, 45, of LaPlace, was driving a 1997 Plymouth Breeze eastbound on River Road.
Gray told investigators that at Cureaux Lane in Garyville, Gray’s passenger, Joyce Singleton, 48, of Reserve, reached over and grabbed the steering wheel, causing him to lose control of his vehicle.
The Plymouth crossed over into the oncoming lane and struck a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Robert Johnson, 50, of Reserve. Johnson told investigators he tried to avoid the impending crash but was not successful.
Singleton died at the scene, while Gray and Johnson each sustained moderate injuries. Toxicology reports are pending on both drivers. Investigating officer is Trooper Tilden Elliott, whose investigation is continuing.
No charges have yet been filed.
