LAPLACE — Everyone has a dream and Zachary Lennix continues to live out his dream of being a gospel music singer.

Born and raised in LaPlace, 37-year-old Lennix remembers singing since he was 3 years old.

“I come from a whole family of singers,” he said. “I have been singing forever. My whole life. I started in the church, and I continue to praise God through my music.”

Lennix graduated from East St. John High School in 1986, got into the retail business, married his wife Barbara and is raising two children K’yron, 15, and D’wan, 8, in LaPlace.

“I have a manager’s certificate,” he said. “I worked in retail for a long time and in delivery, but right now I am focusing on my music.”

Lennix has traveled all over the world for his music ministry and even performed with world-renowned gospel music recording artists.

“I have traveled to Michigan, all over Louisiana, Texas, just all over,” he said. “I have performed with Yolanda Adams, Pastor Marvin Sapp, Pastor John P. Kee, The Gospel Group Collage, the Bolten Brothers and Carlton Pearson, to name a few.”

As Lennix continues to make his mark in gospel music, he also continues to get calls to perform. This time in Paris.

“I was contacted by Pastor Bryan Lewis of Free Ministry of Morgan City and of Taft,” he said. “He asked me to be one of the singers at a workshop and concert in Paris, France, from September to October. It is a real honor.”

Before Lennix leaves for Paris, he will be putting on his second concert open to the public.

“My first concert was last December,” he said. “It was at New Wine Christian Fellowship with Pastor Neal Bernard. It was called ‘Just Thank You’ and this concert will be ‘Just Thank You 2’ held at the Assembly of God on Highway 51 in LaPlace.”

The concert will be open door on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. featuring many local talented soloist, groups like Unction, which he is a part of, church choirs and special guest Pam Landrum from Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of New Orleans, according to Lennix.

“I have never done any professional recording,” he said. “I am looking to get into that and seeking supporters to help raise funds to make a demo. I want to sing for a living and a career. I would also like to have my own retail business.”

Lennix said he would also like to help local talent in the area to get noticed.

“There is so much talent here that no one knows about,” he said. “I want to help them. I want to get LaPlace on the map. I will continue to praise and give thanks to God for everything.”
