Det. Monty Adams still sidelined after gunshot wound received
LAPLACE – The St. John Sheriff’s Office is still recovering from a tragic incident just over a month ago when a shooting incident with two criminals left one officer dead, and another officer wounded.
While Capt. Octavio Gonzalez was killed in the incident, another St. John officer is still recovering from wounds received in the shooting.
Detective Monty Adams was the first officer on the scene to meet the two suspects in the early morning incident in LaPlace, and was shot so severely in his leg that he finally had to abandon the chase due to a loss of blood.
Today, Adams is still recovering from those wounds and has remained in the shadows due to the understandable outpouring of relief and support from the family of Capt. Gonzalez.
But this Friday, August 18, at Tommy B’s Lounge in LaPlace, a fundraiser will be held to help Adams and his family.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. with appetizers before “Take Five” will provide music for the night from 8 p.m. to midnight.
A minimum donation of $10 will be accepted at the door, however organizers of the event are hoping for the community to show the same support and love for Adams that they did for the Gonzalez family.
“Monty hasn’t wanted to be in the spotlight ever since Octavio was killed,” St. John Officer Dane Clement said. “But he is still not able to work full-time and really can use some help. So we’re hoping a lot of people will help out in one way or another.”
A raffle will also be held, with a $1,000 cash giveaway given by Tommy B’s, and a 26” LCD Flat Screen TV donated by Jobe Boucvalt. Tickets for the raffle are $10 each.
Those wishing to help, but unable to make the Friday night event, can call Sue, Dane, Steve or Clarence at 652-9513.
