RESERVE – The River Parish Hawks of the Sugar Cane Baseball League are set to take on the Slidell Creoles this Sunday for the league championship after both teams made it through the semi-finals round with wins this past weekend.

The hometown team enjoyed a comfortable lead for most of the game, and took the win by a score of 16-5 on a field left drenched by some heavy afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Recording 19 total base hits on the day, with 11 of them coming from the trio of Theron Anderson, Brandon Mason and Darwin Pittman, the Hawks were productive on offense as usual.

&#8220All nine of my guys can hit,” said Coach Alvin &#8220Peter” Brown. &#8220Any one of them can knock it out at any time. So we can hit as well as anybody or better.”

Pittman went perfect in his four at-bats on Sunday, while Anderson was 4-for-5 from the plate with a home run to his credit. Mason added three hits in his four trips.

Trent Marlboro took the win from the mound after going six and a third innings before Jose Ortiz came on for one and two-thirds of an inning. Ronald Marshall came in for the ninth.

Against the Slidell-based team this weekend, Brown looks to start pitcher Josh Trosclair. But since the team consists of college athletes keeping fresh in the summertime while school is out, as well as a couple of minor league ball players from the professional ranks of the MLB.

&#8220Josh started in our last game with the Creoles when we played them and we won that one 10-4. I’m looking at putting him back out there for it but these guys are getting back to school and regular season work, so nothing is for sure at the moment.”

The Creoles advance to the title game after taking a 5-2 win over the Delise, Mississippi based team over the weekend with a 5-2 win. The Hawks hold a 14-1 record, having beaten the Creoles at their home field earlier this summer.

&#8220They’re bringing in a pretty different team than the one we saw,” said Brown. &#8220They picked up some guys since we played them, but if my pitching control is there and we don’t walk too many batters, I’m confident that we’ll beat them.”
