Riverside set for playoffs

RESERVE — The Rebels qualified for a wildcard spot in the Swampland League district II with a pair of wins this week coming against Richards Pharmacy in Napoleanville on Monday and against Thibodaux on Thursday. The victories have earned Riverside a match-up with South Terrebone as the number three seed in next Saturday’s tournament set for E.D. White.

On Thursday the Rebels came out tied with Berwick on the season record for the final playoff spot and opened it up early against Thibodaux to assure themselves a spot in the Swampland post-season. It took little time as a pair of home runs in the top of the first inning gave Riverside a 4-0 lead before Thibodaux ever stepped to the plate. It started with Remy Porrier taking base after being hit by a pitch. That brought Jade Falgoust up and he drove in Porrier with a blast to deep right field. Next up, Donny Terrio doubled down the third baseline and advanced to third on a passed ball setting up Keith Guidry, who launched another homer, this time over the left field wall. That’s all that the Rebels would need in this one, as Cavin Richmond was on the mound, giving up just a handful of hits spread out over the game and never really getting into trouble. Riverside would add to their lead to take a 11-0 advantage through three innings before rotating in some of their younger players. Reaching a 14-0 score after four and a half innings, all that was left was for Richmond to retire the side and end the game in the fifth inning.

On Monday the Rebels scored four runs on five singles in the first to take a commanding lead en route to a 9-5 win.
