Businesses team with L’Observateur to give help to Gonzalez family

LAPLACE — Thanks to the strong backing of the River Region business community, the family of Capt. Octavio “Ox” Gonzalez will be receiving a check for $4,000.
L’Observateur published a special tribute section to Gonzalez last week, which honored the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Department officer, after he was killed in the line of duty following up a call for an incident that also left another officer wounded.
Gonzalez was highly respected in the area for his work with the force, especially his undercover work in narcotics, and heading the sheriff’s special SWAT unit.
L’Observateur offered area businesses the chance to team with us to help the family, with half of the proceeds of the special section to be donated to the family, with the other half covering production costs of the section.
Thanks go out to the following businesses for joining with us in helping the Gonzales family, which is survived by Capt. Gonzalez’ wife and two young sons.
