Two-SUV accident results in one fatality

LAPLACE – Louisiana State troopers investigated a fatal two-vehicle accident in LaPlace late Sunday night resulting in three injuries and the death of a LaPlace man
The crash took place on Airline Highway near mile post 24 when a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by Heather Bennett, of LaPlace, struck a 1986 Chevrolet Blazer driven by 29-year-old LaPlace resident Glen G. Thomas.
The Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on Airline Hwy. in the left lane at which time she swerved to avoid an unknown vehicle, which was attempting a u-turn and proceeded into the eastbound lanes striking the Chevrolet Blazer head-on, according to State Police Troop B who handled the investigation.
Earl Hoffman, 54, of LaPlace, who was a passenger in the Blazer, was transported to River Parish Hospital with minor injuries. Thomas, the driver of the Blazer, was air lifted to East Jefferson General Hospital in critical condition. Hoffman died on Monday due to injuries received in the accident.
Trooper Ryan Zimmerman is continuing his investigation.
